Back in 2009, just two months after opening my tattoo studio on the Utrechtsestraat in the center of Amsterdam, I got asked to be part of a video shoot. The video was a YouTube invitation for the Amsterdam Fashion Week afterparty, and it turned out to be a pretty memorable moment early in my career.
As a brand-new tattoo studio in Amsterdam, I saw this as a great opportunity—free exposure, a creative collaboration, and a chance to get some unique footage of my new studio.
The concept was wild and fun: everyone who got an invite to the party had to show up with a moustache—real or fake. It was peak 2009, when moustache tattoos on fingers were all the rage (yeah, those ones). The idea fit right into the quirky, creative vibe of the time.
The Day of the Shoot
I won’t lie—I was a bit nervous. I wanted the studio to look great, and I didn’t know what to expect. The model (wish I remembered her name!) and the video crew were super easy to work with. They stayed for about two hours, and the whole process went smoothly.
When I saw the final edit of the clip, I was honestly proud. It felt like something fresh, not many tattoo studios in Amsterdam were doing anything like it back then.
I even used the video on my previous website and got tons of positive feedback from clients and fellow artists. It helped establish the vibe of the shop early on: creative, professional, and a little bit different.
Looking Back
These are the moments where I realize that tattooing isn’t just about ink—it’s about culture, visuals, and storytelling. It set the tone for the kind of content I still love to create today.
Check out the clip below, and enjoy this little throwback to one of the early days of the studio!
